Dr. Thomas A. Waltz, a neurosurgeon and a senior consultant in Neurosurgery at the Scripps Clinic and formerly chairman and CEO of Scripps Clinic and president of the Scripps Clinic Medical Group, died unexpectedly Dec. 10.
He had been serving as chairman of the board of Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Tustin.
The cause of death was not immediately disclosed. Waltz was believed to have been about 75, according to a press release from the company.
Waltz also served on the Board of Genoptix Inc. and Premera Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska.
He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati, his medical degree from Vanderbilt University and his neurosurgical training at Baylor College of Medicine as well as in England.
