Fogel to discuss Torrey Pines Gliderport
Aviation historian Dr. Gary Fogel will present a talk on the Torrey Pines Gliderport titled “History of a La Jolla Landmark” at the La Jolla Historical Society’s annual members meeting on April 26.
The gathering is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Van Schaick Room at St. James by-the-Sea Church, 743 Prospect St. Admission is free.
Fogel has written extensively on the history of gliding in San Diego and was a co-author of the original nominations to establish the Torrey Pines Gliderport as a National Landmark of Soaring, a Model Aviation Landmark, City of San Diego Historic Site No. 315, and its listing on the California and National Register of Historic Places.
Refreshments provided by the San Diego Chapter National Charity League will be served.
The evening also includes the election of the following nominees to the board of directors: Lydia McNeil, Courtney Ann Coyle and Clarke Herring.
