Financial insolvency to be discussed with La Jolla Cluster Association on Oct. 19

San Diego City School Board Member Scott Barnett will discuss the possibility of financial insolvency in San Diego Unified School District with the La Jolla Cluster Association (LJCA) Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in the library at Muirlands Middle School, 1056 Nautilus St. in La Jolla.

“It is a district meeting for the cluster, but not an official cluster board meeting,” said cluster member Sharon Jones. “District officials will talk about school closures in other clusters and the possibility of the district declaring financial insolvency.”

Financial receivership is not a foregone conclusion for the district, but a serious possibility if budgets cannot be aligned. If it were to occur, insolvency for the school district is a multi-step process that would take time.

LJCA hopes to organize community meetings for discussion of the pros and cons of financial insolvency with all stakeholders as needed.
