Film to reveal architect’s life

A special screening of Design Onscreen’s latest documentary film, “William Krisel, Architect,” will be shown at 7 p.m. May 6 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 700 Prospect in La Jolla.

Directed by Jake Gorst, the film explores Krisel’s life and work, including his roots in 1930s China; his groundbreaking designs for modern living; and interviews with scholars, his contemporaries and family.

During the 1950s, Krisel built thousands of mass-produced tract homes in Palm Springs and throughout Southern California and thus played a key role in establishing the desert modernism of the area. He also built thousands of homes, apartment projects, condominiums and commercial buildings in San Diego, including the high-rise Coronado Shores.

Admission is free, but reservations are required at info@mcasd.org. For more details, call (858) 454-3541. Note: Late arrivals cannot be guaranteed seating.
