Festive bash kicks on this year’s ‘The Nutcracker’
“The Nutcracker” season had its unofficial start at a festive bash to help City Ballet fund its education programs. “Passport to Paradise” was the company’s 13th Annual Nutcracker Gala, held at Paradise Point. In keeping with the resort’s tropical ambiance, the committee decided on cruise and resort wear as the suggested attire – and guests picked up on the theme in creative and colorful ways. Hawaiian shirts, bold-patterned dresses, shell necklaces, and even a Panama hat added to the vacation feeling.
The evening began with a cocktail reception followed by dinner, but guests were encouraged to stay later for an after-party and disco that included dancing with the ballet stars. Some of the City Ballet dancers entertained during dinner as well, much to the delight of the crowd.
La Jolla philanthropists Lise Wilson and Steve Strauss were honorary chairs, heading an honorary committee that included Sheryl and Harvey White, Linda and Joe Satz, Jacqueline Littlefield, Valerie and Harry Cooper, and Jennifer and Richard Greenfield, among others. Margaret Jackson and Denise Larkin co-chaired the successful evening. Other local supporters enjoying the festive event included Board President Ron Cole, Helen Davis, Art and Stephanie Myers, and Kathy and Tom Malinosky.
