Family Days at Birch Aquarium at Scripps

Family Days is a monthly program at Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, that embraces family learning and togetherness by blending arts and crafts, science and one-of-a-kind activities for all ages.

Programs are included with aquarium admission and take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 20

Back to ‘School’ in the Ocean

Kick off a new school year with a “schooling” fish celebration at the aquarium. Learn why some fishes school to feed, find mates and survive in the ocean. Make a schooling fish craft, join us for story hour and observe fish-schooling action in the aquarium.

Creeps from the Deep

Celebrate the weird and wonderful creatures that live in the depths of the ocean. Meet marine life from way down deep - animals that glow, make slime and slither in the dark. Create your own anglerfish craft and meet Scripps scientists who study unusual marine life from extreme environments.

Saturday, Nov. 15

Kelp Kornucopia

Discover the many ways that people and ocean animals depend on an amazing seaweed called kelp. Meet Scripps scientists and learn about current kelp forest research discoveries. Experience an interactive Kelp Tank Dive Show, and get your hands slimy with real kelp.

Admission: $11 adult for 18 and older; $9 senior for 60 and older; $7.50 for youth, 3-to-17-years old; free children for 2 and under; and free for Scripps Oceanographic Society Members

Parking: Birch Aquarium offers three-hour courtesy parking.
