Event raises funds to support Coastkeeper’s mission

More than 60 VIPs attended an invitation-only event at Scripps Seaside Forum to learn about San Diego Coastkeeper’s work protecting underwater parks in San Diego. The event aimed to raise friends and pledges to fuel Coastkeeper’s effort to secure marine protected areas off our coastline.

Dr. Paul Dayton, the keynote speaker, remarked on his past as a fisherman and how he’s seen the underwater environment dramatically change over the past decades. In explaining his life’s mission to provide science to groups such as Coastkeeper who can take action with the information, Dayton said it is his dream to finally see marine protected areas established along the Southern California coastline.

Once this happens, he said, he can happily retire knowing he’s left behind a legacy — to allow children of future generations to have the same fishing experiences he had as a child.
