EPA awards San Diego grants for hazardous waste site assessment

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday awarded $400,000 in grants to the city of San Diego to assess hazardous waste sites.

The grants, awarded to the city’s Redevelopment Agency, will be used to inventory, prioritize and assess hazardous waste sites, according to the EPA. The funds can also be used for cleanup planning and community outreach.

A total of about $1.5 million in grants were awarded by the EPA in Brea, Los Angeles County, Rialto and San Diego through the agency’s Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund and Cleanup Grants program.
