Dentist celebrates 20 years in La Jolla

Time flies when you love what you are doing like Dr. Joseph D’Angelo does.

D’Angelo became interested in dentistry right out of high school when he was in the Air Force and was assigned to work in the dental clinic. He later entered State University New York Stony Brook and graduated summa cum laude, then went on to dental school at one of the nation’s top dental schools, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

After graduating, he fell in love with La Jolla’s ambience and outdoor lifestyle. D’Angelo made the move across country and opened his first office 20 years ago on Pearl Street with just one employee and a vision to grow. In 1994, he expanded his space, and with hard work and commitment, his practice quickly grew even more. After outgrowing that office in 2004, he moved to his present location at 1111 Torrey Pines Road.

D’Angelo said the passion for dentistry he and his staff share is what distinguishes his practice.

“For some people, it’s just a job, but for me, I really do enjoy it,” he said. “If I didn’t need to work, I’d still do it. Everybody in my office really loves being here, too: That’s what makes people comfortable.”

D’Angelo recently invested in his practice and bought a state-of-the-art I-CAT digital X-ray. It is the only one of its kind in La Jolla and provides him with the unique opportunity to view the structures of the mouth in three dimensions.

He performs general, cosmetic and implant dentistry.

D’Angelo and his wife of 18 years, Lisa, are enjoying La Jolla while raising their daughter, Vaill, a freshman at La Jolla High, and their son, Joey, a seventh-grader at Muirlands Middle School.
