Decision on La Jolla Cove fence removal postponed

The City Attorney’s office, per a request from City of San Diego Assistant Chief Operating Officer Stacey LoMedico, is considering opening the fence surrounding the La Jolla Cove or creating a gate to the bluffs and allow public access. The theory is if human access were restored, the sea lions would be less likely to rest there.

LoMedico said in a statement, “I requested the City Attorney’s Office to respond to a request on the viability of opening the gate/section of the fence at La Jolla Cove while evaluating the liability issues associated with such a change.” The response was expected Friday, Nov. 15, but the statement indicated it would not released until next week.
