Deadline closing in to pay property taxes

Less than two weeks remain until the second installment of 2009-10 property taxes are due in San Diego County, Treasurer- Tax Collector Dan McAllister said Tuesday.

Because the traditional due date of April 10 falls on a Saturday, the county will accept collections on Monday, April 12, McAllister said.

He said 982,000 tax bills were mailed in September, which are expected to generate $4.5 billion in revenue.

However, more than 47,000 first installments were missed, totaling $93,411,183, or 4.15 percent of anticipated income, according to McAllister.

Payments can be made toll-free at (877) 829-4732, online at

, or in person at the County Administration Building on Pacific Highway; 590 Third Ave. in Chula Vista; 200 S. Magnolia Ave. in El Cajon; 9225

Clairemont Mesa Blvd. in Kearny Mesa; and 141 E. Carmel St. in San Marcos.

The Chula Vista and Kearny Mesa offices were temporarily re-opened to accept collections.

“Our drop boxes, available at every branch location, are also a fast and convenient way to pay your tax bill,” McAllister said. “They are available 24/7 and there is absolutely no need to wait in line.”
