Dead ‘seal or sea lion’ removed from WindanSea

Lifeguards hauled the carcass of a “large seal or seal lion” off the rocks at Windansea Beach on Tuesday, said Lt. John Greenhalgh.

A resident who lives near the beach said it was not a harbor seal, because it was much larger

“It was too big to remove it by land,” he said Thursday.

Instead, lifeguards towed it into Mission Bay where it was trucked to the landfill.

Greenhalgh said there was another dead mammal removed from the shore in Pacific Beach a week earlier as well as one in Mission Bay. A resident of Mission Beach, he said he also has noticed a lot more dead seabirds on the beach lately when he’s been out walking his dog.

He could not provide more details.

SeaWorld officials said they were not notified and had no further information.
