Cups adds culinary classes
San Diego foodies now have another reason to frequent Cups, La Jolla’s newest cupcake lounge: Cups Culinary, a full-service teaching kitchen hosting weekly, hands-on cooking and baking classes taught by a number of expert chefs at the expansion of the shop’s La Jolla location, 7857 Girard Ave.
Each of the public Cups Culinary classes will feature a unique theme based on the instructor and the night’s menu items.
“We’re thrilled to start the class series in our new comprehensive teaching kitchen, open to everyone, and complete with flat-panel TVs and surround sound,” said Michelle Ciccarelli, owner of Cups.
“This kitchen classroom is truly what inspired me to open Cups — my own love of teaching, and the ability to bring in like-minded chefs and let them share their passion for the craft with others.”
Cups Culinary started its single-session cooking and baking classes with a Mommy (or Daddy) and Me baking class.
Every Sunday throughout the summer, the Market-to-Table class will feature chef Jesus Gonzales, former creative chef for Rancho la Puerta and Golden Door Spas. As part of this class, culinary students will explore the La Jolla Farmers Market, receiving informational tips on the seasonal produce, followed by a healthy lunch prepared and provided from the day’s shopping.
Additional June classes will include chocolate art and, not surprisingly, specialty cupcake baking classes, including vegan and gluten-free; themed cupcake baking classes will be taught every other Thursday throughout the summer, including additional classes in low-glycemic varieties and seasonal favorites.
Kids-only decorating classes will also be offered throughout the summer: Mid-day classes will be offered every Tuesday throughout the summer, and for both kids and their parents, Parent’s Night Off — Cupcakes and a Movie, a Friday night class featuring cupcake decorating and a kid-friendly movie showing, permitting parents a night off for themselves.
