Crash snarls I-5/805 rush hour traffic
A four-car crash in Sorrento Valley that sent a vehicle careening 200 feet off Interstate 5 and into some water, leaving the driver trapped for nearly two hours and traffic in a mess through the morning rush hour, authorities said.
The crash on southbound I-5 just south of Interstate 805 was reported at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Rescuers considered using a helicopter to hoist the driver out of the wreckage but ultimately carried the person out by hand, according to a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher. Paramedics then took the driver to Sharp Memorial Hospital at 6:25 a.m., he said.
Traffic was still moving slowly around 9:30 a.m., following a Sigalert which had traffic moving slowly through the area.
