Cox signs on as golf tournament sponsor

Cox Communications has joined the 2010 Celebrity Championship as title sponsor for the 12th annual charity golf tournament in San Diego County that showcases well-known current and former pro athletes and celebrities.

Drew Brees, Super Bowl MVP and quarterback for the 2010 champion New Orleans Saints, will host the “Cox Celebrity Championship” for the first time. It will be held May 20-23 at the Morgan Run Resort and Club.

The event consists of a two-day celebrity-amateur tournament, nightly sponsor parties and the main event — a 36-hole celebrity competition for a $100,000 purse.

As part of Cox Communications’ title sponsorship, Channel 4 San Diego will produce a one-hour special about the event.

Since its inception, the event has raised more than $1 million on behalf of numerous San Diego-based charities. This year, a percentage of ticket sales, auction proceeds and sponsor sales will be donated to the Brees Dream Foundation to support its charitable efforts in San Diego.

Daily tickets are priced at $10. Children under 10 and guests with a military ID are admitted free.
