County receives $5.1M in stimulus funding for green energy

San Diego County has been awarded a $5.1 million federal economic stimulus grant to fund energy conservation projects, it was announced Tuesday.

“This grant will fund projects that will help save money and the environment by conserving energy at county facilities and encouraging green building practices in the community,” said Dianne Jacob, chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.

The grant, through the U.S. Department of Energy, will be used to fund more than a dozen projects including solar panel installation and updated air conditioning controls at county facilities and to provide incentives to local builders to construct “green” buildings, according to the county.
