County offers pet microchipping in Cardiff on Saturday

Pet owners can have their animals microchipped, vaccinated and licensed by the County Department of Animal Services during the Cardiff Dog Days of Summer event on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The all day event will take place along Aberdeen Drive in Cardiff.

“We have rescued hundreds of animals during past fires, and confirming identity and ownership is critical to reuniting lost animals with their owners,” said Dawn Danielson, Director of County Animal Services. “A microchip will remove any doubt about ownership and help us bring the animals and their owners together after a disaster. As you walk down Aberdeen Drive with your pet to enjoy the various pet related booths, stop by the County Animal Services booth and have your pet vaccinated for rabies, and purchase a license and microchip all in one spot!”

The Department will microchip pets for a one-time fee of $20, which includes the registration. Rabies vaccinations for dogs (four months or older) are $6. Amnesty from late fees is offered to owners who have failed to license their dog or have allowed their dog’s annual license to lapse. Spay/neuter coupons will be available, $25 for male pets, $50 for female pets.

These services are available for residents who live in the unincorporated county or contract cities: San Diego, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, and Santee.
