County jobless rate rises
The unemployment rate in San Diego County rose to 11 percent in January, up from a revised 10.3 percent the previous month, a state agency reported Wednesday.
The unemployment rate in San Diego County in January of last year was 8.4 percent, according to the California Employment Development Department.
The state’s unadjusted unemployment rate was 13.2 percent in January, compared to 12.2 percent the previous month, according to the EDD.
The national unemployment rate in January was 10.6 percent, compared to 10 percent in December.
Between December and January, the San Diego region shed 17,400 jobs, most in the leisure and hospitality and trade, transportation and utilities sectors, according to the EDD.
