The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency on Wednesday encouraged residents who have not yet been vaccinated against the H1N1 influenza virus to do so.

“We are still not out of the woods,” said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer.

“The virus is still present throughout our community,” she said. “While many people have gotten vaccinated, there are still many more who have yet to get the vaccine. The vaccine is now widely available.”

To date, 820 people in San Diego County have been hospitalized with the H1N1 virus and 62 people have died locally.

The HHSA is holding three free mass H1N1 vaccinations events this weekend, beginning Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Community Center in El Cajon, 195 E. Douglas Ave.

Two vaccination clinics will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: at the Kimball Senior Center in National City, 1221 D Ave., and the Westfield Plaza Camino Real in Carlsbad, 2525 El Camino Real.
