Coastal Bay teams compete in Districts
Coastal Bay Girls Softball league participated in the American Softball Association (ASA) Districts over the Fourth of July weekend. One team in each age division (8U, 10U, 12U and 14U) competed, making their first appearance at Districts in more than four years.
The 14U and 10U teams were eliminated in the first round, and the 12U and 8U teams advanced to the second round.
The 12U team, led by Managers Anthony Sarain and Evan Bloom, won its first-round game against 4S Ranch by a score of 6-2.
Later, it narrowly missed the opportunity to advance to the state championships, losing by only one run to Tierra Canyon. The 12U team had its best tournament of its All Star season, placing fifth at ASA Districts.
Also coming very close to advancing to post-districts play was the 8U-Gold team from Coastal Bay, who defeated Valley Center, 6-1, to advance to the quarterfinals. However, with no rest bet-ween games, Coastal Bay then lost 5-11 to Tierra Canyon’s 8U team, the defending state champions. The team took fourth place at Districts.
Coastal Bay Girls Softball League (formerly La Jolla Girls Youth Softball) is based out of La Jolla Elementary School (LJES) softball field.
