Climate specialist begins Bishop’s lectures

David H. Klipstein, Ph.D., a specialist in climate change and chemical pollution control, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the first Leaders in Science lecture for The Bishop’s School 2010 – 2011 science series.

Klipstein is the founder of Reaction Design (retired) and has more than 45 years of chemical pollution control and energy industry experience in planning and directing, technology development and commercialization of new process design tools for those markets.

At the “Keeping Pace with Southern California’s Ocean Assets in Changing Times” lecture, he will explore the ecology of local wetlands and visit their impacts on human health. He also will briefly report on a program at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography that is training the next generation of scientists who, upon graduation, can find practical solutions to marine conservation within the ecological, social and economic constraints.

The lecture series is open to the community without charge. The lectures take place in the Geier Family Presentation Hall in the Michael & Marlene Teitelman Science Center.
