Christmas cheer coming to LJ
Organizers of the La Jolla Christmas Parade and Holiday Festival are getting a jump on bringing some holiday cheer to the Village - and they want some help.
The annual parade, followed by a family-oriented gathering and tree-lighting ceremony at the Rec Center, are set for Dec. 7 from 2 to 5 p.m.
Volunteers are needed ahead of that day as well as on parade day, and 30 vehicles are needed to carry VIPs along the parade route, which starts at Girard Avenue and Kline Street before turning onto Prospect Street to head for the Rec Center.
Besides those cars, members of the La Jolla Town Council’s parade committee say they’d love to have antique cars and other “special” vehicles enter, as well.
They’re also in search of carolers to sing along the route and at the festival.
And to fire up the holiday spirit, they’re organizing a storefront-decorating contest.
Categories include most traditional, most modern, most “beachy,” most outrageous and best 1800s motif. Shoppers can vote on the favorites by casting ballots at the street.
Since the success of the event depends on raising money through sponsors and community donations, they’re putting donation cans in stores and restaurants and accepting check at LJ Town Council Foundation, P.O. Box 1101, La Jolla 92038.
