Chargers trade Whitehurst to Seahawks for draft picks

The Chargers completed a trade with the Seattle Seahawks today, sending quarterback Charlie Whitehurst to the Seahawks for draft considerations.

San Diego and Seattle swapped second-round choices in this year’s draft, with the Chargers moving up 20 slots in the process, getting the 40th overall choice while giving up the 60th choice. In addition, San Diego receives an undisclosed 2011 draft choice from Seattle.

The 6-4, 220-pound Whitehurst is entering his fifth NFL season. He has played in only two regular-season games during his career and has yet to throw a pass in a regular-season contest. He did however score a rushing touchdown on a 14-yard run against Tennessee in Sept. 2006.

Whitehurst’s father, David, is also a former NFL quarterback. He played for Green Bay from 1976-83.

The trade leaves Philip Rivers and Billy Volek as the two remaining quarterbacks on the Chargers’ roster.
