Chargers coach guest of honor at MS event
National Multiple Sclerosis Society held a private reception in honor of Chargers head coach Norv Turner on June 4. The event was held at the private La Jolla estate of Jerry and Sandi Sweeney. Major donors to the National MS Society also attended.
Turner, who recently joined the National MS Society’s board of trustees, has a personal connection to multiple sclerosis. His mother lived with a severe form of multiple sclerosis, a chronic, unpredictable and disabling disease of the central nervous system with no known cause, cure or prevention. Vicky Turner spent the last years of her life in a wheelchair before passing away in 1989. As a single parent, she raised five children with the help of public assistance and despite the physical limitations resulting from MS. Norv was the middle child. His oldest sister, Janis, who lives near Sacramento, also has MS, the most common neurological disease leading to disability in young adults.
