Car crashes through La Jolla business; customer injured
A female customer was injured Tuesday when a car crashed through a front window at a La Jolla hardware store.
The accident at Meanley & Son ACE Hardware at 7756 Girard Ave was reported about 10:45 a.m, according to San Diego police.
Bob Meanley, whose family has owned the store for 60 years, said a female driver was behind the wheel of the car which first hit a teak bench mounted on the sidewalk outside.
“Several staff members were screaming at her to stop,” he said, noting that there were about nine employees and five or six cutomers in the store at the time.
When the driver took her foot off the gas, the car was inside the store where it had pushed back a heavy display and hit the customer who was sitting at the special order desk, Meanley said. He estimated damage at about $15,000.
“Fortunately, she hit the right spot and didn’t damage the wall.” he added.
Medics took the injured woman to Scripps La Jolla for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
The cause of the accident was not immediately clear.
