Candidate filing period for county, state elections open
The candidate filing period for most state and San Diego County offices for the June 8 primary election begins Tuesday.
Candidates can file papers for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors; county assessor/recorder/county clerk; district attorney; sheriff; treasurer/tax collector; San Diego County Board of Education; San Diego Community College District; San Diego Unified School District; Chula Vista mayor; and Chula Vista City Council.
The filing deadline is March 12.
Up for reelection on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors is District 4 Supervisor Ron Roberts and District 5 Supervisor Bill Horn. District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis is running uncontested so far for a third term. Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister is also seeking reelection and likely won’t face opposition.
Three people have announced plans to run against Sheriff William Gore, who was appointed last year by the Board of Supervisors.
The filing period for four San Diego City Council districts opens Thursday, according to the City Clerk’s Office.
In District 2, Councilman Kevin Faulconer is seeking re-election as is District 4 Councilman Tony Young. District 5 Councilwoman Donna Frye is barred from running for re-election because of term limits. District 8 Councilman Ben Hueso plans on vacating the seat to run for the Assembly.
The last day City Council candidates can file their paperwork is March 11.
