California design magazine roasts Geisel Library as 1 of 25 U.S. buildings that is an eyesore

, showcasing the magazine’s list of “

25 Buildings to Demolish Right Now

,” because UCSD’s Geisel Library building (in La Jolla) is among them.

“I thought you might enjoy the piece,” Rachel writes. “While the title of the list is all in fun, this eccentric list contains buildings that are quite the eyesore. From your neighborhood’s Geisel Library to the childhood favorite, Barbie’s Dream House – the selection is plenty and the guilty verdict is all the same.”

Of the beloved library CHD editors write:

“For a building that is named after Dr. Seuss (real name: Theodor Seuss Geisel), one would think this building would be more fun than futuristic.

Again, maybe we wouldn’t completely tear this one down, but, really? If a building is so funky looking that it inspires full-blown

urban legends

that it appeared as a spaceship in ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Attack of the Killer Tomatoes,’ maybe it’s time to reconsider your design choices.”
