Crews were continuing to work into the night Thursday on a broken water valve and line that caused the busy Throat intersection to be innudated with water in the midst of rush hour.
The water line ruptured when a connector valve failed near Torrey Pines Road at La Jolla Shores Drive, according to a police dispatcher.
Police set up detours to direct motorists around the area, where flooding began shortly before 5 p.m.
At about 8 p.m., a police spokesman said there was no estimate on when repairs would be completed. No service interruptions were reported.
The break was the second of the night and occurred about the same time a line ruptured in the College area. In that case, water boiled out of the roadway, submerging low-lying sections and digging out a roughly 6- by 8-foot cavity in the asphalt, SDWD spokesman Arian Collins said.
