Bishops wins opening round of state CIF
Head to Torrance tomorrow for next opponent
The Bishop’s School’s girls basketball team started its quest for a state championship on a winning note Tuesday, defeating Oaks Christian, 79-60, in the tournament’s opening round.Briana Martinez led the Knights with 25 points and 15 rebounds, Elaina White added 18 points and Bryn Stark tallied 17.
“We jumped on them early,” said Bishops head coach Marlon Wells. “We pressed them, got some turnovers, got some easy baskets and our shots were falling.”
Bishops, the 6th seed in the Southern California bracket, now heads up to Torrance to face Bishop Montgomery, 7 p.m. March 11. A win in Torrance combined with a La Jolla Country win against Sierra would set up a third-round match between the schools on Saturday night at LJCD.
“If we can get a few fans out there for their support the kids will definitely appreciate it,” Wells said.
The Torreys have defeated the Knights in all three previous meetings this year.
