The Bishop’s School water polo team split its games last week, winning a double-overtime, one-point loss over La Jolla High School on Friday.

The Knights-Vikings matchup on Friday was tied after the first two periods of play at 1-1.

The Vikings scored four goals in the third quarter that were answered by three goals by the Knights’ Drew Hoffenberg.

With La Jolla leading by three in the four quarter, Bishops’ Justin Wolfe scored, to tie the match at 8-8.

Both teams were scoreless in the first overtime period, before the Knights were able to squeak out a goal in the second overtime, edging out the Vikings 9-8.

High scorer for Bishop’s was Hoffenberg with five goals. (Earlier in the week, the Knights toppled Cathedral Catholic, 12-5.)

La Jolla’s scores went two to Hunter Gettelfinger,2; Joe Laird, 2; James Hixson, 2; Adam Buechler, 1, and one to Augie Arcidiacono, 1.

The loss to Bishop’s followed by only two days a 7-4 Viking loss to Coronado.

After that game, Vikings Coach Tom Atwell said, “At this point in the season I was not too disappointed with the loss. I thought our boys played well and we took several good shots; the Coronado goalie just had a great game.”

He said he’s optimistic that “with a few adjustments we should be able to sneak away with a win at their pool when we meet in a few weeks.”

The Islanders started with a 4-1 lead in the first quarter that La Jolla couldn’t close.

High scorer for the Vikings was Hunter Gettelfinger with three goals.
