BE WiSE awarded Golden Bell

La Jollan Patricia Winter, BE WiSE program director; Dr. Ericka Senegar-Mitchell, biotech teacher at Serra High and teacher of record for BE WiSE Oncofertility Academy; and Nancy Taylor, science coordinator for the San Diego County Office of Education and executive director of the San Diego Science Alliance, accept a Golden Bell Award given to the BE WiSE program on Dec. 5 by the California School Boards Association.

The program was recognized as exemplary in the Partnerships and Collaboratives category. Winter and Taylor founded the program, which taps into local industry resources to introduce middle school girls to science, math and engineering. The girls are supported through high school with mentorships and opportunities to learn about careers.
