Art is alive and well at Bird Rock Elementary School. Stroll the campus and you see murals and mosaics. Peek into the multi-purpose room and you might hear students preparing for an upcoming production of “Peter Pan.” Peruse the windows and you see classrooms alive with color.
On May 9th, ArtReach a non-profit organization created to bring collaborative visual art experiences to K-6 students in the San Diego region, will add to the rich artistic experience that Bird Rock embraces.
Patti Fox, artistic director of ArtReach, will work with first-grade students to create a series of “Dream Quilts.” Students will work with chalk pastels.
Barbara McDonald, one of the four first-grade teachers at Bird Rock, said the school is committed to teaching the visual arts by experiencing, exposing and exploring the various mediums with children.
The first grade team contacted ArtReach after hearing about a successful program at Loma Portal Elementary.
