The San Diego Oceans Foundation, an organization promoting grass-roots programs designed to “increase understanding of marine animals, protect ecosystems and provide solutions to environmental challenges,” encourages individuals to participate in its fundraising campaign.
Cynthia Vasquez, an area diver, has taken on the challenge of trying to raise at least $1,000 in pledges during July. She said that if she does, the foundation will present a marine science lecture to any classroom of her choice in San Diego County next year.
This free Ocean in Motion program consists of four, 90-minute marine science presentations that will be an overview of marine invertebrates, a live animal laboratory and hands-on activities, according to the foundation’s Web site.
