Aquarium lectures set

Birch Aquarium will kick off its Jeffrey B. Graham Perspectives on Ocean Science Lecture Series at 6:30 p.m. June 4. A second event is set for July 12.

Both lectures are for lay audiences.

Scripps physical oceanographer Sarah Gille is the first speaker. Her talk is titled “Probing Long-term Temperature Change in the Southern Ocean.”

She will discuss how she and her colleagues are assessing temperature change in the ocean, exploring mechanisms that might be responsible for observed changes, and grappling with the implications of ocean warming for global climate change.

In July, Scripps geoscientist Jeff Gee will talk about “Exploring Extremes of Earth’s Magnetic Field.”

Admission is $8 for the public, $5 for students and educators. R.S.V.P. at (858) 534-5771 or go to
