Annual gala opens Globe’s winter season

The Old Globe launched its 2008-2009 winter season with its annual Gala last Saturday night. Nearly 300 guests gathered for the festivities to welcome the new season and celebrate the beginning of construction of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, scheduled to be completed in 2010, just in time for the Globe’s 75th anniversary.
The night began with hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a silent auction in Balboa Park’s Alcazar Garden. Then guests were invited inside the theater for a live auction and sneak peek of Clare Boothe Luce’s “The Women,” the season’s opening play. Following the performance, dinner and dancing was held on the Globe’s Coply Plaza.
