Allen Field lot expansion completed

Friends of La Jolla Youth Inc. turned out on Aug. 26 for a ceremony to mark completion of the Allen Field parking lot expansion. Changes were required under terms of the 25-year lease with the city. Murray Helm, president of the recreation support group founded in 1958 to oversee local youth soccer, baseball, and Councilwoman Sherri Lightner were among the crowd. It took the group 18 months and donations ranging from $5 to $30,000 to get the job done, Helm said as he acknowledged donors and board members. While doing the work, the contractor also laid a large sewer line that will be required when they install permanent restrooms sometime down the road.
