U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents made a record seizure of methamphetamine over the weekend in the waters off San Diego, it was announced Monday.

Agents found 144 pounds of meth - the largest such seizure off the San Diego coast - around 12:30 p.m. Sunday after they boarded a 23-foot Bayliner just outside Mission Bay upon its return from Mexico, according to the agency.

The methamphetamine was discovered in a secret compartment below the deck, along with 10 pounds of cocaine, the CBP reported. The drugs have a combined estimated street value of $3 million.

The vessel was escorted to shore and the boater, a U.S. citizen whose name was not released, was turned over to customs agents.
