Accident, fence work tie up La Jolla traffic

A minor traffic accident early Friday morning off Interstate 5 near the entryway into La Jolla blocked the freeway’s right two lanes for several minutes and tied up traffic coming into the community. Combined with work to repair a fence on Torrey Pines Road that necessitated the closure of one lane, traffic congestion did not clear until late morning.

“It was a solo-vehicle accident that took out about 20 to 30 feet of the guardrail on northbound Interstate 5 just south of La Jolla Parkway at 5:48 a.m. this morning,” said CHP Officer Jesse Udovich, adding the incident caused a sigalert to be issued.

Udovich said the driver of the Nissan Maxima was not identified. That person was not arrested.

Udovich added the roadway was clear and reopened at 6:31 a.m. However, traffic was backed up coming into La Jolla for hours afterward.

Udovich added there were only minor injuries reported for the vehicle’s driver.
