‘70ish’ man robs Carmel Valley Vons

A man who appeared to be in his 70s robbed a bank in a Carmel Valley supermarket today, police said.

The thief handed a demand note to a teller at the US Bank service center in a Vons store in the 4600 block of Carmel Mountain Road about 2 p.m., according to San Diego police.

The message stated that the bandit was carrying a gun, though no weapon was seen, a dispatcher said.

The robber, described as thin, with gray hair and wearing a blue baseball cap and eyeglasses, fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
