The 26th Annual Celebrity Chefs Cook Gala - benefiting the Moores Cancer Center at UCSD - was dubbed, “Tres Gourmet.” And this successful fundraiser, held at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina, really lived up to its name.
With celebrity chefs the likes of Jean Michel Diot (Tapanade), Bernard Guillas (The Marine Room), Eddy Rocq (Leana Restaurant in La Jolla), and Dominique Tougne (Bistro 110 in Chicago) - just to name a few of the contributing culinary wizards - it was no surprise to anyone that the pre-dinner reception was tres gourmet.
About 500 people were on hand to sample the chefs’ wares and sip a little wine along the way. Then the group entered the Grande Ballroom for dinner and dancing.
Credit gala chairs Anne Otterson and Sue Kalish for the fantastic event. Their hard-working committee included Carol Chang, Vicki Eddy, and other local supporters. This year’s honorary committee included several La Jollans as well. Among them were Barbara Bloom, Raffaella and John Belanich, Marilynn and Roger Boesky, Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and Dr. Jim Whitsell, Audrey Geisel, Teresa and Harry Hixson, Hermeen and Sam Scharaga and Sheila and Jeff Lipinsky.
Also on the huge guest list were Don Breitenberg and Jeanne Jones, Arthur Brody, George and Alison Gildred, Lee Maturo, Ingrid Hibben, Irwin and Joan Jacobs, Fred and Angel Kleinbub, Sheila Potiker, Duana and Judy Roth, Dixie and Ken Unruh and Jay and Lael Kovtun.
