2 accidents on Pearl occur within days

Two traffic-halting, but noninjury, afternoon accidents occurred on Pearl Street over the last two days last week.

Around 4:15 p.m. May 13, a silver sedan collided with a sport utility vehicle at the intersection with Cuvier Street.

The accident occurred in the middle westbound lane, in front of Jack In The Box and the La Jolla Light office. A silver sedan driven by a teenager sustained front-end damage and the SUV had damage on its front bumper. No injuries were apparent.

The same intersection was the scene of a crash on April 30 when a car turning left onto Cuvier struck a bicyclist.

And on May 11, a half-block away, a teenage girl crossing the street midblock was unharmed when she was was hit by a car on Pearl Street.

The girl crossed from the alley next to Pearl Hand Car Wash and was hit by a black Mazda around 2 p.m. According to a policewoman, neither the driver nor the pedestrian saw each other.

The woman went up onto the fender and fell off the side of the car, the officer said. She told firefighters and police officers that she felt no pain, so therefore no police report or further action was taken.

“I can’t believe nothing happened,” the driver said. “She should have a broken bone or something.”
