Monday storm could bring inch of snow to East County mountains

A wet winter storm moving along the San Diego County coast Sunday evening through Tuesday morning could bring significant rain and potential snowfall on its way into northern Mexico, according to the National Weather Service.

A few light rain and snow showers were forecast for Sunday evening, expanding to widespread rainstorms Monday as it moves over the mountains and deserts Monday night.

Heavy snow is forecast at elevations of 5,000 feet and above, which would include Palomar Mountain, Mount Laguna and the Cuyamaca Mountains.

Rainfall predictions range from one-tenth to an inch of rain in the coast and border areas to more than 1 inch of snow in the mountains, the National Weather Service reported.
