Police search for prowler who fled Normal Heights home

San Diego police searched in vain early Friday for a prowler who ran away when a Normal Heights resident found him in her home.

The woman called 911 about 6:15 a.m. from her home on Iowa Street near the Interstate 805 on-ramp at Madison Avenue.

She said the man was wearing a puffy jacket, police Officer Josh Hodge said.

Officers fanned out around the area on reports that the man, wearing a black jacket over a gray hoodie and blue jeans, was on the brushy embankment along I-805.

Police were watching the freeway from the Monroe Avenue overpass and a police dog was helping in the search.

After failing to spot the man anywhere, police gave up the active search about 7:40 a.m., Hodge said.
