A powerful winter swell is generating waves that are expected to reach the 6-foot to 12-foot range in South County, with sets to 14 feet, creating hazardous surf conditions through late Thursday.
The swell has already led to the closure of the Ocean Beach Municipal Pier.
The National Weather Service says that large waves also will pound North County, but they’ll be a couple of feet smaller.
A hazardous surf advisory will be in place until 10 p.m. on Thursday.
Forecasters say the surf will be followed on Saturday night by a Pacific storm that could drop 1 inch of rain in San Diego.
