Newsom carried Oceanside and Cox took Ramona: Map shows gubernatorial results by precinct

Democratic candidate Gavin Newsom was victorious Tuesday in California’s midterm election, winning the most votes against San Diego businessman John Cox.

The former San Francisco mayor walked away with 54 percent of San Diego County’s votes, according to the registrar of voters.

Data show Newsom received more than 50 percent of the votes in nearly 1,150 precincts. Many of Newsom’s top precincts were within Chula Vista, Oceanside and San Diego city limits.

Cox, a Republican and wealthy businessman from Rancho Santa Fe, received about 46 percent of the votes. Data show he was successful in more rural areas, including Lakeview, Ramona and unincorporated areas of the county.
