Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. The United States Marine Corps brought me to San Diego.
What do you do for a living?
I have been involved in the hospitality business for most of my career. Prior to retiring last year, my wife, daughter and son-in-law owned Shades Oceanfront Bistro in Ocean Beach .
Are you married? Got kids?
As I mentioned, I am happily married for almost 40 years. We have four children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild (expecting a second later this year).
Please provide a brief history of your involvement with peninsula governance.
I've been honored to serve several terms as president of the Ocean Beach Town Council. I've served for the last nine years as a board member of the Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association. Further, I am currently treasurer of the Ocean Beach Community Development Corp. For the last two-plus years, I have served on the board of the Point Loma Association.
If you could wave a magic wand and make a wish for Point Loma come true, that wish would be:
That all of the neighborhood organizations on the peninsula work more closely together in order to ensure the beauty and safety of our community.
What is your favorite thing about living on the peninsula?
There are three things I appreciate: its people, its history and its unique beauty.
What is your top priority for Point Loma improvement?
To see our planned lighting project along several blocks of Rosecrans Street come to be.
What is one thing you want people to know about the Point Loma Association?
We are continually looking for new members who could bring new and exciting ideas on how we can achieve our goals serve our residents.
Do you have a favorite spot for relaxing in town? (Where is it?)
My wife and I enjoy nice walks along the bay and the fishing docks. We love relaxing in several of the hospitality venues located by the water.
How would you spend a $5,000 gift to Ocean Beach (OB) — no strings attached?
I would gladly receive the gift and leave the decision of how to use it to the discretion of Ocean Beach's community boards of directors.
