New board members, officers for Merchants group
La Jolla Light vice president of advertising Don Parks, Bendls of La Jolla owner Gerhard Bendl and Nativa Interiors’ Silvina Petrate were sworn in as new La Jolla Village Merchants Association (LJVMA) board members, Nov. 8, at the monthly meeting in La Jolla Library. For the next two years, each will have a seat at the table and a vote on measures under consideration.
Also at the meeting, James Niebling of Esteban Interiors was re-elected president, Jerit George of San Diego Fly Rides was elected vice president and Brett Murphy of La Jolla Sports Club was elected treasurer for the Association.
The first LJVMA holiday party in what Niebling said was “many, many years” was announced for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 at Ligne Roset, 7726 Girard Ave. (Invitations have yet to go out.) Niebling said that an awards ceremony is being considered as part of the program that recognizes Village businesses going “above and beyond” in community contributions, landscaping and “any other contributions.”
During her report, LJVMA executive director Sheila Fortune announced net income of $10,000 for the year. “We are doing very well on our budget this year,” she said. The annual certified audit is completed, she added, and will be issued to the board at next month’s meeting, then uploaded for the public to review. In addition, the annual report will be written by the end of the year. “You’ll have lots of documents coming up in the next 30 days to review and vote upon,” Fortune said.
In other news, block-captain rules have changed: Instead of assigning a group, a single person will be assigned to each business zone instead, so more ground can be covered. LJVMA is also relocating its headquarters to 7590 Fay Ave. and plans to be open there after Thanksgiving. “We discussed another location, but we found a much less expensive office building … that will save us a good deal of money,” Fortune said.
The meeting also included presentations from MiraCosta College’s small business development center and La Jolla Light.
