SummerFest workshops provide free concerts at the library
Every year during the SummerFest chamber music festival, La Jolla Music Society presents concert workshops (free, live performances) at La Jolla Riford Library. During the twice-a-day shows, held 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday-Friday until Aug. 22, Fellowship Artists work with La Jolla Music Society coaches to refine their artistry at 7555 Draper Ave.
Kicking off the workshops on Aug. 3, the Verona Quartet performed Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 4, Opus 44, No. 2, and then the Beacon Street Trio offered Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major, Opus 8. SummerFest artists will coach young musicians from the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory on Aug. 12 and 16. (No workshops Aug. 18.) This year marks SummerFest’s 30th year with concerts offered through Aug. 26 (mostly) at Sherwood Auditorium in the Museum of Contemporary Art, 700 Prospect St. The festival is curated by Music Director Cho-Liang (Jimmy) Lin. Tickets through the Box Office (858) 459-3728 and ljms.org
