La Jolla Historical Society set out to recreate the famous 1906 photo of cows on the beach at La Jolla Shores in honor of its 110th anniversary. As the sun rose the morning of March 13, 11 cows from the Van Ommering Dairy Farm in Lakeside and the Eden Vale Dairy Farm in Lemoore were brought to the beach so famed photographer Philipp Scholz Rittermann could shoot a 2016 version of the image.
