Four athletes from La Jolla high schools traveled to Clovis for the CIF State Championships on June 5, but none advanced from the Friday prelims to Saturday's finals.
La Jolla High School's Nihal Kayali ran a time of 2 minutes, 15.67 seconds in the girls' 800 meters, but wasn't fast enough to be alongside the nine runners advancing to the finals.
Teammate Jeremy McGrath registered a height of 14 feet, 9 inches in the boys' pole vault prelims, but needed to clear four more inches to be among the 11 vaulters qualifying for finals.
The Vikings' Jose Aviles threw the shot put 53-2.5, missing a position in the boys' finals by one spot and two inches.
Taylor Maxey, the lone representative from The Bishop's School, registered a mark of 115-2 in the girls' discus, but that wasn't enough to get her in the top nine and move her on to Saturday's competition.
Boys volleyball La Jolla High secured a 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 29-27 victory over Oak Park on June 2 in the first round of the CIF Southern California Division II regional playoffs.
But the Vikings were eliminated two days later with a 25-13, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21 loss to top-seeded Mater Dei of Santa Ana, the eventual champion.
La Jolla, which got into the inaugural regional playoffs by winning the CIF San Diego Section Division III championship, finished the season with a 21-17 record.
Bishop's fell in the first round of the CIF Division III regional playoffs, losing to St. Margaret's of San Juan Capistrano, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, on June 2.
Boys golf La Jolla High School's Dylan Jackson shot a 9-over-par 81 at the CIF Southern California Championships, held June 3 and 4 at The SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta. Jackson's round of 39-42 was not low enough to advance him to the CIF State Championship. The top three teams and top six individuals not on a qualifying team moved on to the state tournament.
